Makaton Vocabulary Development Project
The Makaton Vocabulary is a language programme which provides a basic means of communication and encourages language development in children and adults with communication difficulties. The programme uses speech, signs and symbols to provide a multi-modal approach to communication development. The MVDP provides national training for people who wish to learn how to use the programme effectively. It also produces numerous resources to support use of the programme at home, at school and in the community.

Marie Curie Cancer Care
Hands-on nursing care is provided day and night by approximately 6,000 Marie Curie nurses in patients' homes through the Marie Carie Nursing Service. This service is available throughout the UK and accessed through the local district nursing service. There are 11 Marie Curie Centres (Hospices) and admission is via GP or consultant. Both the services are free of charge to cancer patients. Runs training courses on aspects of cancer for all health professionals working in the field.

Master Transcriptions
Transcription service from print to tape for people who are visually impaired. Languages other than English included.

Medical Council on Alcholism
Exists to enable medical practitioners and related disciplines to work together, with better understanding of alcoholism and its prevention, and for the treatment and aftercare of alcoholics.

MENCAP - Royal Society for Mentally Handicapped Chldn&Adts
Provide advice and support to people with a learning disability, their families and carers through a network of local and divisional offices and groups, and through the support team at head office. Produce a magazine 'Viewpoint' (10 issues per year) where advertisements for secondhand equipment may be placed.

Meningitis Research Foundation
Aims to prevent death and disability resulting from meningitis by: actively working with families affected by meningitis to raise funds for research into its prevention and treatment, striving to increase public awareness of meningitis, promoting a better understanding of the disease amongst health professionals and policy decision makers.

Mental Health Foundation
Charity concerned with mental health issues and learning disabilities. They are dedicated to increasing knowledge and resources, changing attitudes and practise; pioneering new approaches to prevention treatment and support and opening up opportunities. The function of the Helpline is to offer general information on aspects of mental health and learning disabilities.

Migraine Action Association
Encourage migraine sufferers to support research into the causes and alleviation of migraine , and to participate in research projects. To offer reassurance and understanding and keep all members informed of progress in research and the latest treatments. Subscription o5 per year.

Mobility Centre - Mobility Advice and Vehicle Information Service
MAVIS was set up by the Department of Transport to provide advice and information to disabled and elderly people on all aspects of outdoor mobility. MAVIS has a free information and assessment service for advice on driving, car adaptation and car choice. They also provide information to professionals working in the medical and rehabilitation fields.

MOVE International (Europe)
MOVE seeks to enable children and adults with severe physical disabilities to sit, stand and walk using the MOVE teaching programme and special equipment if necessary. MOVE also trains and certifies professional carers. It also seeks to promote fuller participation in home, school, work, and community life and to encourage the dignity and hope such participation brings to each individual. Multiple Sclerosis (Research) Charitable Trust
The trust focuses upon people already diagnosed as having MS. It works to support people with MS by funding research in disease management; providing positive and realistic information and establishing a national network of nurses ordained in this field.

Multiple Sclerosis Society of Great Britain and Northern Ireland
Aims to promote research into finding the cause and a cure for MS. Provides a range of information leaflets about MS. Provides information and advice about financial assistance. Produces a monthly magazine 'Team Spirit' where advertisements for second hand equipment may be placed. The MS helpline is open, 9am-9pm weekdays. Lobbies government for better services for people with MS and their friends, families and carers. All information is available in Hindi.

Aims to promote the equality of people with neuromuscular impairments (NMI), and promote positive images of people with NMI.

Muscular Dystrophy Group of Gt Britain & N.Ireland
Funds research into treatment and cures for MD and allied neuromuscular conditions. Supports those affected by the condition with counselling, grants and information. Produces a quarterly magazine 'Target MD' where advertisments for second hand equipment may be placed.

Music and The Deaf
Organisation to help people with hearing impairment explore the world of music and develop their own musical skills. Organises classes, workshops, lectures and recitals, gives advice and provides information.

Music for the Disabled
MFTD plays live music for both adults & children with physically and/or learning disabilities, in hospitals, schools, centres, clubs etc.

Myalgic Encephalomyelitis Association
Offer information to people with ME & the public and medical professionals. Helpline open from 1.30 - 4.00 pm Mon -Fri. Also fundraise to support research.

Myasthenia Gravis Association
The Myasthenia Gravis Association is a charity which offers support & information to people with the condition and their families. Also aims to increase public awareness also medical and raising funds for research in order to find a cure.
