AbilityNet (formerly Computability)
Registered charity, offers comprehensive information service to people with disabilities seeking advice on computer technology. Freephone helpline, individual assessments and training courses. Supply and follow up support for fully adapted computers. Consultancy and assessment service to assist in choice and use of computer equipment by people with disabilities, at work and at home. The centre can also offer help to people who have 'upper limb disorders' (formerly known as repetitive strain injury) and find keyboard and mouse work difficult.
From August 1999, The Foundation for Communication for the Disabled has integrated with
AbilityNet.
Access Tourism
Aims to promote the training and employment oppurtunities that exist for people with disabilities within travel and tourism around Europe.
Offers sheltered work and training for diabled people in the following areas of tourism:
Guest houses and hotels;
Campsites and caravan parks;
Travel agenets;
Specialist travel information services;
Tour operators and holiday companies
Visitor centres and places of interest.
ACE Centre - Aids to Communication in Education
The centre provides a focus of information and expertise in the use of technology as an aid to communication. It provides a wide variety of services including in depth assessments of the communication needs of individual young people in education, training of professionals and parents, and research and development. The centre is involved in projects working with manufacturers of equipment by advising on the special needs of communication impaired children, or developing specialised software to meet specific accessing and educational needs. It has a library of short term loan equipment and also produces publications. This centre covers the south of England. The Ace Centre North covers the north of England.
Ace-Access Centre
This centre aims to provide information, expertise and advice to parents, children, and professionals in the use of micro-electronics as aids to communication.
Staff at the centre come from a variety of professional backgrounds, including education, occupational therapy, speech therapy and electrical engineering.
Services offered include; in depth assessments of the communication needs of individual children and adults; training of parents and professionals, dissemination of information on aids to communication, surveying and evaluation of products and software, production and dissemination of surveys and occasional papers, development of specialised software. This centre covers the north of England. The 'ACE Centre' covers the south of England.
Action Against Alopecia
Aims to offer support to people with alopecia.
Offers advice and listening support to people with alopecia (early or unusual hair loss) including information on treatments and wearing wigs.
Action Against Breast Cancer
Funds research into the treatment of breast cancer.
Action for Blind People
Provides services for visually impaired people in the areas of:
Work - supported employment, factories, vocational training and job search;
Leisure - holidays and hotels;
Housing - sheltered and independent housing, and residential homes;
Support - information and advice, including welfare rights, national mobile service, and grants to individuals.
The organisation runs four holiday hotels, has independent accommodation and has residential care homes. It also has an information and advice service, a welfare rights service and a grants service.
Action for ME and Chronic Fatigue
Exist to further the awareness of, and knowledge about, Myalgic Encephalomylitis for people with ME, their carers, the general public, the medical profession, the media & the government.
They further provide a support service to people with ME.
Action for Sick Children
Work with parents and professionals in promoting high quality health care for children in hospital and at home.
There is a library and information service, a branch network providing support and advice. The charity undertakes research and publishes findings.
Active Birth Centre
This organisation provides ante-natal classes, runs a mail order service and hires and supplies water birth pools. It also runs ante-natal and post natal workshops.
ADD - ADHD - Family Support Group UK
Attention Deficit Hyperactive Disorder is an impairment of activity and attention control. The problem presents as a child who is always on the go, does not settle to anything, has poor concentration, cannot stay still and cannot wait for others.
ADHD family support group offers support for the families of affected adults and children. Information and advice about the condition. Offer contact details for appreopriate medical and education advice.
Advice Guide
Advice guide gives you Citizens Advice Bureau basic information for people to look up the answers to straightforward questions, or find avice on where to go for further nformation about more complex issues.
Seperate advice is given for Scotland, England and Wales.
Advisory Centre for Education
Gives advice via the telephone and web site to parents who need information and support on education law and practice in schools including admissions, special needs, exclusions, bullying and complaints.
Telephone help line open between 2pm and 5pm weekdays.
Has a wide range of publications and offers training.
Advisory Council on Alcohol and Drug Education
To work in the field of preventative education. Its work encompasses the areas of health and personal and social education, with particular expertise and experience in alcahol and drug education and demand reduction.
Advocacy Partners
To support users of community care services in the London Borough of Sutton by providing short term advocacy.
Advocacy is available for people who require support for one off events, such as making a complaint, resettlement from hospital, a community care assessment etc.
We also provide crisis advocacy for people with learning disabilities in Mid Surrey, citizen advicacy for older people in Sutton and citizen advocacy for people with learning disabilities in Sutton, Merton, Richmond and Mid Surrey.
African Caribbean Leukamia Trust
Aims to encourage black and mixed race parentage people to come forward as potential bone marrow donors. They raise awareness about blood related cancers and also offer emotional and financial support to all sufferes, and their families and friends.
Age Concern England
Age Concern England is a national charity that works to promote the well being of older people and to help make later life a fulfilling and enjoyable experience. The head office provides support and advice to Age Concern organisations around the country. These organisations provide the direct services for older people locally and are independent charities in their own right.
Age Concern England has a grant fund for new or expanding projects of direct benefit to older people which are run by charities or organisations with charitable intentions.
Publishes fact sheets and an 'Information Bulletin' with information on community care, consumer affairs, disability issues, health and health service information, heating, housing, income, and parliament/government and legal affairs. All information is available via Age Concern's web site or the telephone help line.

Aims to provide older people with information and advice on recreational activities, opportunities for voluntary work, learning new skills.
Range of publications including their annual review and 'Grasp the NETtle', a beginners guide to the Internet.
Aids Care, Education and Training
Comprehensive home care service for people who are HIV positive. Provides help with practical needs including shopping, housework, transport. Volunteers assist to provide these services.
Also provide a schools education and training service throughout London on HIV issues as well as relationships, sex education and contraception.
Aids Education and Research Trust
Provide a comprehensive information to prevent people from becoming infected with HIV. To improve the quality of life forthose already infected. To work with others to develop a cure.
Also fund research into HIV and AIDS for improved treatments and understanding of HIV.

Alcohol Concern is the national agency on alcohol misuse. It works to reduce the costs of alcohol misuse and to develop the range and quality of helping services available to problem drinkers and their families. Alzheimer Scotland - Action on Dementia
Helps people with dementia, their carers and families, living in Scotland.
Aims to be the national voice to improve public policies and to provide and secure the provision of high quality services for both people with dementia and for their carers.
Has over 45 projects and branches throughout Scotland, providing practical services such as day, evening and weekend centres, home care and befriending and carers' support services.

Alzheimer's Society
Formally known as the Alzheimer's Disease Society. The society works through a national network of 180 local branches, 80 support groups and 100 contact people. The helpline is open Mon-Fri 8am-6pm.
The society offers information and advice and all representatives have either personal or professional experience of the disease.
Anorchidism Support Group
Provide support and information for families with children and young people affected by absence of the testes whether congenital or acquired.

Help, support and research into Arachnoiditis. Research into the effects of myelography and epidurals.
Arthritis Research Campaign
Finances research into the cause and cure of rheumatic diseases. Publishes many excellent free handbooks for people with arthritis. Send a S.A.E. for a list of titles.
Arts Council of England
The Arts Council produces a number of publications on arts and disability and a directory of art and disability organisations, available in large print, Braille and cassette. Disability Link Officers can give telephone advice about different art forms.
Artsline
Artsline is London's information and advice service on access to the arts and entertainment for all disabled people, publishing a wide range of access guides for disabled, and currently nearing completion of a Multicultural Access Guide as part of their Multicultural Project (project line 020 7388 2474). Also supplies disability equality training, specifically geared towards arts and entertainments venues.
Association for Children with Hand Or Arm Deficiency
To promote the relief of children with upper limb deficiencies by encouraging mutual aid and support between families.
Association for Glycogen Storage Diseases ( UK)

Association for Spina Bifida and Hydrocephalus
Provides advice, information and support to people with spina bifida and/or hydrocephalus, and their carers. A team of ASBAH workers covers most of England, Wales and N. Ireland and are backed up by specialist advisors in education, mobility, continence and medical matters. ASBAH produces a range of publications including leaflets, booklets and magazines, newsletters.
Association of Breastfeeding Mothers
Provides information on all aspects of breast feeding to anyone with an interest, whether they be a mother or a health care professional. ABM councellors are mothers who have enjoyed breastfeeding their babies. They have completed a training course enabling them to help other mothers to overcome problems experienced during breast feeding. Most ABM counsellors run a support group. ABM also provide a letter couselling and information service, a quarterly magazine, information leaflets and posters, electric breast pump hire, annual get

Runs a forum to let people know of any impovements in treatment and the understanding ofCF.

Association of Radical Midwives
Supports those having difficulty in getting or giving sympathetic, individualised NHS maternity care. Actively campaigns for woman-centred, midwife-led community-based maternity care and supports the development of small team midwives providing continuity of care for women who need or wish to choose hospital care. Publishes a quarterly journal "MIDWIFERY MATTERS", leaflets "What is a Midwife?" and "Choices in Childbirth". Membership, open to midwives, student midwives and non-midwives, provides a quarterly journal, free use of Postal Lending Library, reduced registration fee at study days, conferences and quarterly National Meetings held at various venues throughout the country.
